On December 13-15th, L’Arche Spokane held its annual Advent Retreat at the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center. We reflected on the four themes of Advent – hope, peace, joy and love.
Here are some of the highlights from both assistants and core members:
- “It’s always so special when everyone gets to be together in one space.”
- “Hearing about peace and wanting peace as an action. Reflecting on ways that I can bring peace home and into my community.”
- “We see wreaths at Christmas every year, but it’s not often that I take time to think about it’s representation – God’s everlasting love for us!”
- “Being on retreat and seeing everyone together, has shown me what it means to be a caregiver and what it means to be an assistant/housemate in L’Arche.”
- “I loved the creativity of each session and the leadership displayed by each assistant.”
- “I thought I’d never be able to spend a whole night away from home, but I did it! Thanks to everyone for making it possible!”
- “We learned that love is not easily broken and sometimes it can be a bit messy, but it can be counted on and is durable through all seasons of life.”
- “The food was my favorite part!”
- “I loved celebrating Jesus’s birthday!”
